Resilience is a word that people like to throw around as if it signifies far less than it does. Often people add an element of whimsy to it by saying things like “We’ll bounce back.” or grabbing a platitude like “We’ll be stronger than before.” What isn’t often discussed is that resilience takes consistent, committed, and very hard work. Resilience is yet another one of life’s many journeys that is infinitely more about the path itself than any hypothetical destination.

Earth day means a lot to us here at Happily in Progress. We are all not only passionate about being physically, mentally, and emotionally in progress, but also about helping our world become a little better day by day. What better way to shout our passion about this beautiful planet and all the beauty that inhabits it, all the beauty still waiting to be explored, and all the beauty desperate to be saved than to celebrate this day!

There’s a funny thing about darkness. When you are alone, it seems bigger. Stronger somehow. The same is true of secrets. When we hide them, they grow. You know, come to think of it, it works that way with a lot of things we might want to hide – how we feel, an action we regret, a mistake we’ve made. It works that way with anything that might cause shame. When we feel shame creeping silently toward our doors, we lock things down and shoo everyone away trying to make sure that when it arrives there is nobody around to see. Nobody to hear. Nobody to judge.

Unstoppable used to be a word that seemed fictional. I mean, let’s be real for a minute here – there are many things that stop us in our tracks.
