Today my heart and mind are focused on music. I love the way that music can transport us away from our current reality and into a place where relaxation reigns and worries and anxieties can drift away on the notes and lyrics. Music can bring us together and connect us – even when vast distances in mind and body keep us apart.
If we were going to create a soundtrack filled with tunes that would spur us on together, gaining strength as we surged forward, it might include songs like these:
Francesca Battistelli – The Breakup Song → https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H0wpP5o7xpI
This song helps me to keep perspective when things are difficult – like they are right now. It fires me up and prepares me for whatever lies ahead. No matter what I’m thinking, what I’m fearing, or what seems to be looming ahead, I feel like I can shout from the rooftops – FEAR YOU DON’T OWN ME! Will you shout it with me?
IT IS WELL WITH MY SOUL (Arr. David Wise) → https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nDIJz6zzHNU
I saw this song featured on a Nashville news report about coronavirus. I’d be lying to you if I didn’t say that I got pretty emotional the first time I listened. This song really showcases how people come together in times of crisis. It showcases that it isn’t about just 1 person, but about the strength of the song as each voice builds together in spite of physical barriers that could have kept this choir from joining together. This song is, indeed, good for my soul. *Note: For our Spotify playlist, we used a version by Anthem Lights, but the same theory applies. 🙂
TobyMac – Move (Keep Walkin’) → https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MX1G71WK-FA
This song has a great beat and reminds me that not only do I need to keep moving forward (even the baby steps count, you know), but that a chorus of people are cheering me on. I want to be a part of that chorus for others as well.
What songs would you add to our soundtrack? We’ll be featuring music every so often as we build a Spotify playlist of our own. We’d love for you to be stronger together with us and help us write the soundtrack that will take us through this time hand in hand – wait – how about safely 6ft apart, but side by side – or better yet, linked arm in arm, but only metaphorically speaking. 🙂
